There's Something about Mary

Stories and thoughts about my time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Moldova

Winter in Riscani

About 2 weeks ago Riscani was hit with lots of snow.  At the time I was spending the weekend in Chisinau, so I had to stay an extra day since the buses were not running in Riscani.  I actually didn’t believe it was that bad until I arrived in town on Tuesday afternoon.  In Chisinau there was only 2-3 inches of snow, but in Riscani it was more like 2-3 feet.  Now, 2 weeks later, barely any has melted because it has been really cold.

My host dad has been working everyday to clear more and more of the snow.  He even cleaned off the roof to his garage/shop area.  Here are some recent pictures of the beautiful snow.

O zi Buna!

Hi, I'm Mary. I am orignally from Spokane Wash., where I lived for 20 years of my life. I went to school in Bellingham Wash, at Western Washington University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. In June 2011, I moved to Moldova for the Peace Corps. In the Peace Corps, I am an Agribusiness and Rural Development Volunteer, and live in a town called Riscani, which is about 3 hours northwest of the capital city. I love Moldova, but there are somedays where I really miss all my friends and family in the States! Email me if you have more questions!
